Or only talk about RP stories. We did it in the Prancing Pony on One Ring.com.
Just curious.. and this UBB time/date clock needs a serious setting.

Hey, if you guys want to role-play in here instead of in a tavern, go right ahead.

It's really for discussion on the topic of RP though.

Ok, that works. The Pony it is for RP! I guess we can put any 'Aside from...' threads here as we discuss things.

lol, does it really matter yet? Later on it might even be better to do RP here than in an INN, cause here it's aimed/Directed RP, IE, on a topic, as in, don't talk bout other stuff here, just RP

Some people are smart enough to realize when a thread no matter where they are is an RP thread. Please respect that.

Well that last post explains Eruantalon's malfunction. []

Yes, the early days where there were so many empty foirums with somewhat vague descriptions on them!

I wish it could be back to the way it was back then, except I just wished I knew about the site then. I think WGW should just restart the entire website, and start from scratch and leave all of the really good Threads in like an archive or something.

Yes, I agree with you, but it's getting out of hand. Everytime I try to start a thread or something, I always get forwarded to another one, and I hate that.

I have to confess that I don't understand this idea. From SSA's thread:

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is disheartening to be told that whatever you said has been discussed elsewhere four years ago (and so presumably nobody is interested any more), or to be totally ignored.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I know that many Southerners here have an idea that old topics can’t be re-discussed, but this idea has always baffled me. Why can’t you bump an old thread? I do it all the time. According to my 50 most recent posts, 10%, or 5 of them, were in threads over a year old. I think it’s fun to browse old topics and see if there is anything I can add. Some of them are serious discussions, and others are more fun like “name all your Tolkien books” or whatever. I know that Snowdog is the master at this, and Ear does it a lot too. Some of the newbies like MANDOS also does it, and he / she hasn’t even been here two months yet!

If you have something you want to talk about, just do a search. If you find an existing topic, bump it with your thoughts, even if it is something as simple as “I agree with what Nimruzir posted five years ago because…” Even if it isn’t a great post, others will see it and comment if their brains are jump-started. That may start a whole new level of discussion with new people and new ideas that didn’t occur five years ago when the topic was active. This happens on a semi-regular basis.

And regarding being ignored, well, that just happens sometimes if no one has anything to add. There is a running joke amongst myself and a couple of other citizens regarding my “Frightened Pony” thread in the Hobbit, which was greeted with a resounding silence. Either it’s uninteresting, uninspiring, or just a plain goofy thread. I don’t take it personally. It just happens sometimes. The Mighty Musnud had a wonderful statement once upon a time about posts being ignored, but I can’t seem to find it. The point is that everything one says doesn’t have to be commented upon, and to expect that is unrealistic in such an environment.

THORIN , if I may add something to yours:

I don't know how many Newbies we have, and I, myself have only been here 2 years, and as I stated before can't/don't check in every day so there are things I miss. I like seeing the "old" threads. What did I miss 3 years ago? What was the topic in some other thread 5 years ago?
I try to respond to the "old but revived" threads whenever possible 'cause I like (some of) them!

Ok, that's all.............

its called Necro-posting, and some people don't like to be reminded of what they said in years past...

But good info lies in these threads, especially in those created well before the movies came along and turned everyone into a self-proclaimed "Tolkien Expert" .

Besides, its fun to search the archives.

Well if it's any comfort I am in no way, shape or form a Tolkien expert. And alot of times I cause something and then we will go off on tangents, and then I'll get linked to another thread.

Oh hell, here we go again! []

Some of us have other things to do with our time than search through endless old threads. Some of us would, as both Joe and Neytari have said, like to discuss things anew.

We don't want to read what somebody said in 2001 necessarily - we'd like our own discussion!

It is soul-destroying to be sent to old threads where everything has already been said. You guys want MT to die? There are new citizens all the time, they all have valid opinions. But what response do they/we get? Go to xxxxxxx thread, where we all decided the outcome before you joined.

Fine. Kill the board. It's no skin off my nose. []

Somebody, some time, had the bright idea of a forum for new citizens to have literary discussions where they were not bombarded by those kind of posts, but nothing ever came of it.

If enough people care, PM me, and I'll start a boozy hangout in the Perch for those of us who would like to talk Tolkien without being told it's all been said before. It hasn't - even though he is no Shakespeare - and we should be allowed our chance. If I do have enough response and start one, it will be members-only.

I have nothing against previous discussions as such, but if they stop new citizens talking about Tolkien then I am severely against them.

You complainers/referrers are so obviously not teachers! []
