The idea that the WK was so close to the east bank that he had only to spur his horse to get out contradicts this quote:
quote:Caught between fire and water, and seeing an Elf-lord revealed in his wrath, they were dismayed, and their horses were stricken with madness. Three were carried away by the first assault of the flood; the others were now hurled into the water by their horses and overwhelmed.'
Alone of all the Nine, The WK did have the strength and skill to save his horse. Moreover, remember that in UT it is said that he alone didn't fear water. The fact that he lost his cloak and boots also indicates that he had to swim:
quote:Only the bodies of 8 horses were discovered; but also the raiment of the Captain.
BTW, the last quote shows that the nazgul didn't have identical clothes: secret mission or not, there must have been something (a sigil? a brooch?) to identify the cloak as the Morgul Lord's.
