It would appear that a lost writing and sketch by the good professor has come to light concerning the 'true' origin of the Dwarf realms and it would appear that female dwarves had a larger say in their society than was first suspected HERE is the sketch of those founding 'mothers'!

You know, I never made the connection between Tolkien's founding Dwarves, and Disney's number of dwarfs. That probably really bothered Tolkien, surely he would have noticed the use of 7.

Disney, certainly - and Tolkien, perhaps : he knew a lot on fairy-tales. And add to that the symbolism of "7" ...

Although, if you notice, the Dwarves in the Hobbit are subetly different from those in the Lotr.

Following up on Tuor's comment, Bilbo, like Tolkien, may have had very different audiences in mind when writing TH and LotR. TH was a "tale" while LotR was more of a "history."
