There's a wide span between identical and "much alike," and in fact I'd say this span precludes it. There's not even any proof thy were twins, they could be simply "Irish twins" (i.e. children born less than a year apart).

Good text quote Wandering Tuor. NST doesn't answer your query Varnafinde, but only adds their opinion. Its pretty clear from all that is written by Tolkien himself that Elladan and Elrohir were twins.

And as far as Elladan and Elrohir being in the Hobbitt, well, PJ missed the boat. They, and the Rangers, should have been in the LOTR.

Additions, I might add, which nullify his paltry defense of limited screen-time.
"Well we can't have Glorfindel, sine we only have so much screen-time for Arwen... like when she goes into a coma, heads for the Havens, and brings the Elves to Helm's Deep"
And I'm just like "Okay, cut! Time out! Everybody outta the pool!"
