Dialogue between Gimli and Eomer near the main gate of Helm’s Deep: -TT Helm’s Deep
quote:
’I shall not find it easy to repay you, ‘ said Eormer.
‘There may be many a chance ere the night is over,’ laughed the Dwarf. ‘But I am content. Till now I have hewn naught but wood since I left Moria.’

Yep, Gimli forgot I guess.

To me that's easier than saying that the text of the Red Book (or its copies) had incorrectly suggested Gimli had slain or hewn at least one orc with Legolas after the Company had de-boated...

... wait de-boated?

Is good Galin.
I certainly didn’t expect anyone to catch it so fast.

And I agree that , although there were no specific heads lopped, it is made clear that ‘many’ orcs were slain in the woods near Parth Galen by Gimli & Legolas. I too choose to take the quote AS recorded, and blame Gimli himself for the faux pas - as in the heat of battle, with adrenaline rushing, his mind flashed back to what, for him, was a more significant encounter in Khazad-dûm, and he unthinkingly blurted out what came to mind.

Maybe disembarked . . . or is it dis-embarked. Wait . . . wasn’t Dis the mother of Fili and Kili? [] []

And so you've found the only other Dwarf female - Dat daughter of Dis. I wonder if Dat had a daughter De-udder? I'm sure Tolkien would have rounded out this short piece of family tree - Dis, Dat, and De-udder. []

A Dis-Dat-Gimli 3some? []

I don't have my books handy so I can' quote the passage, but I'm sure that Gimli had a bit of fight since Moria. Good catch.

Yes Snowdog
Near Parth Galen mentioned above. From TT, ch. 1

quote:
'Alas!' said Legolas, coming to Aragorn's side. 'We have hunted and slain many Orcs in the woods...'
