Well, as no-one else has even attempted this... it was probably fool-hardy for me to try. However, using some very dodgy, and some just plain illegal moves, I've done it: ANAR A NAN A MAN AMEN OMEN OPEN OP-ED APED SPED SEED REED REND RENT RANT RANA
I'd like to apologise for bending the rules so disgustingly, but I felt that this game could use a kick up the rear, as it's a rather good fun. To get the game moving again, I'll post another one tomorrow, unless someone else can make some improvements on my method.

Well, I hope people are interested in playing... perhaps someone can relive the steps involved from getting from the Shire to the Last Homely House in the West? I've got it in 15, but I expect this can be improved upon.

Here is a rather unsatisfactory attempt requiring seventeen moves, and using one word regarded by Dictionary.com as archaic and another regarded as obsolete.

SHIRE SHORE CHORE CHOSE CHUSE CAUSE CARSE CORSE HORSE HOUSE
It has taken me a while but, given the improvement from Meneldil's target of 15, that's what I call a year well spent.

I am much too feeble of wit to think up one of these, so do please take my go, anyone who wants it.

Can you confirm that the nine entries include both the starting and finishing positions - i.e., there are seven stages missing?
