Actually I'm just jealous Brae; I've always wanted to visit Oz []
But one thing I've often wondered is do Aussies take pride in tracing their ancestry back to a deported convict in the same way our US friends do in tracing their ancestry back to one of the Pilgrim Fathers? []

Heck, I don't know. I'm a first-generation Australian... Most Aussies just don't seem to care who their ancestors were. They care more about the present and the future. []

Anyhoo, I'd vote for that entrance exam for MT. [] Five questions would be enough, though; and maybe they should focus on what actually happened in LotR (rather than what the films said). []

I'm not sure about that. Not all the people that discover the site through the movies and haven't read the books yet are evil ; it's more a matter of one's personality rather than of one has or hasn't read, IMO []

I have only 5 HoMes, does that mean I'm less evil than you ? []

No, it's independent of book-ownership, remember. But yeah, you're less evil than me. Loser.

And it also needs to be realized that this site can be a good influence on movie fans. When I joined here back in 2002, it was to talk about the Movies. I had barely finished LotR. I didn't even know of the existence of The Silmarillion, or The Unfinished Tales or any of the HoME. It was from coming to this site that I learned to appreciate the books more than the movies. And I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Being so hard on movie fans is elitist, snobbish, and may be turning away future Tolkien scholars.

Give movie fans a chance.

I like this idea.. and they should be trick questions too, something like...

In the book, after Aragorn vaults dramatically off the cliff to open the beastiality scene, does his horsie kiss him with tongue, or is it just a peck on the cheek?

That'll trip up the evil PJ fanbois & girls for sure! []

Didn't Tolkien write about that in the Extended Edition only? That'd be unfair. I'd prefer questions about how many boxes Gimli would need to reach Legolas' shoulder while the latter stagedives.

If an elven princling stagedives and there are no dwarves there to catch him... Does he ever actually hit the ground?

And if he does, and breaks his nose and becomes a bloody mess... does he lose his movie role to some other pretty-boy-in-waiting like DiCaprio or Justin Timberlake?

I'm looking forward to the new "movie" people [] They are not "the enemy", not matter how uneducated they are in "true Tolkien." They are fellow Tolkien lovers and potential fellow Tolkien-book lovers.

He's not sulking.

He's sticking to his beliefs and refusing to compromise simply to make "life" easier for himself. It's noble, really.
