The Brewhouse in Brisbane is probably the best place I've found to drink good microbrew. It probably wouldn't even rate in Washington, but this is beer hell...

Since 2008, the above-mentioned Brewhouse suddenly closed in September 2008, but re-opened in an old hotel in early 2010!

Also, Brisbane has notched it up some with a few good beer bars. Archive Beer Bistro is one.

The Grand Central Platform has some good rotating taps.

And The 5ifth Element has some good bottles and a full time tap of Matilda Bay Alpha Pale Ale!

You mean they drink something other than a cold, fuzzy, well-known lager brand in Australia?

That's a traditional bogen thing... getting pissed buckets on VB, Carlton, Touheys or XXXX.

The craft beer revolution has come, and the south around Melbourne is leading the way. Brisbane, being closer to the tropics, is a bit behind the curve but they are doing alright.

Or there is the Deschutes Brewery in Bend Oregon. Their Obsidian Stout is excellent, but if you prefer lighter faire, then Morror Pond is it.
Just saying, Snowdog knows what he's talking about. [] The Black Butte Porter is good as well.

If you ever have a chance to check out one of the McMinnemans pubs in Portland, do it. There's tons to choose from, my favorite is Edgefield. If you like dark, try the Terminator. The Ruby also gets good reviews.

Of course Deschutes makes some great specials too, like Mirror Mirror & Black Butte XX ... Still, have a warm place for their Twilight Summer Ale.

Today I had a Sierra Nevada Pale at the 5th Element in Brisbane's South Bank. They just barely avoided the folld with the help of some sandbags, but they were without power & water for a couple weeks.

Over four years on, the 5th Element is no more, replaced by a New Orleans Cajun style restaurant. But I'm happy with the pub scene here in Brisbane. There are microbrewpubs in the city, like Brisbane Brewing, Newstead Brewing, and Green Beacon Brewing, and some great taphouses, like the Bloddhound Bar, Tippler's Tap, The Embassy, and The Burrow, with some good taps appearing at some of the nice restaurants and cafes. You have come a long way since 2007 Brizzy! []
