Hello and Welcome, everyone, to the Green Dragon, the Role Playing forum of Minas Tirith. The purpose of this forum is to provide an outlet for the delightful array of burgeoning imagination belonging to so many of Tolkienĺs fans. Many of you may be working on pieces of fiction on your own, and every now and again, you can even get some feedback here about those endeavors. However, the primary purpose of this forum is for multiple citizens of Minas Tirith to pool their efforts and create stories in the tradition of J. R. R. Tolkien. The stories here contain grand tales of adventure, often set in Middle-earth, but sometimes set in other fantasy realms, and in each, each MTer plays the role of a character that he or she has created. There are many different types of stories here, so look around and find something that strikes your fancy, or create your own and recruit members, either by opening your thread to all comers, or by specific invitation. Before you get started, though, take a peek at this thread. It provides quick access to several other threads about RPs and important for RPs. If you are a newbie to MT RPing, check out the RP rules thread. The descriptions of all RPs may be helpful as well, if you are searching for an RP to join or to read for enjoymentĺs sake. Enjoy. ~Mandin
RP Rules by Mandin http://www.minastirith.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=11;t=000368 RPs are not run rigidly by rules, but a good knowledge of the rules is always helpful. This thread has the rules put together by me, largely taken from an ancient thread by Mithrandir. Then there are the RP rules as set up by WGW. Following the first, lengthy thread is a discussion of these rules.
Resources for RPs by Bethberry http://www.minastirith.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=11;t=000477 Bethberry has here provided us with a "community service thread!" This includes links to Middle-earth maps and elven languages sites, as well as a figure depicting the make-up of swords and their part names. This thread, with more additions, has the potential to become extremely useful to the RPers of Minas Tirith.
Do RPs share the Doom of Men? by Lugb˙rz http://www.minastirith.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=11;t=000594;p=1 This thread initially discussed people's thoughts on improving the RP situation of MT, and includes the origin of this thread. The conversation then turned towards the subject of transforming RPs into flowing fanfic stories, instead of disjointed RPs. Come here to discuss the means of doing so, or volunteer to help with this tedious, but interesting project.
Roll Call: Characters by Adanedhel http://www.minastirith.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=11;t=000494 This thread is similar to Elessar's thread, linked above. People post biographical information about their former RP characters for the purpose of Threadmaster to find potential character their RPTs and for other RPers to check on the other players' Bios, and for ideas for creating future RP characters.
Along with all the above RP related threads, I also think it appropriate to provide the two (probably three) following links. These two are not about RPTs, but are actualy RPTs that are primarily designed to be a help with other RPTs.
The Stage Coach by Lugb˙rz http://www.minastirith.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=11;t=000482 The Stage Coach is a stagecoach with a stage for artists of all ages and sizes, for the experienced and the novice, for those in search of fun in short-term role-plays, for those who want to meet fellow actors, for those who want to start off on a quest within a quest within a quest...
The Lost Inn by Mandin http://www.minastirith.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=11;t=000591 The Lost Inn is run by Mandin and Thorin. It has no particular location nor a particular time, and is designed to service as many RPs as feel like a brief, peaceful respite from their journey or quest. The inn is easiest found by those passing a wild plain or empty hill country or treacherous mountain pass. In the gloomiest of times the inn will show itself to wanderers, and be like a House of Tom Bombadil, a place of comfort, story telling, singing, and good food.
Snowdog's Inn by Snowdog http://www.minastirith.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=12;t=000015 Although Snowdog's Inn does not reside in the Green Dragon, but rather the Golden Perch, it is - if I do not mistake myself - the oldest and largest and most content filled of all the inns of Minas Tirith. It is not striclty an RP inn, but RPs have in the past sprouted from this inn, the Theft of Umbar being the most colourful example. The initial companions for the quest to Umbar met in Snowdog's Inn. I hope by including this link to direct RP interest towards this Inn, and perhaps seeing new RPs originate from its smokey, strangely peopled interior.
If you know of MT links that should be here, please send me a PM. If you know of RP related sites outside of MT, please add them to Bethberry's resource thread.
I think in our efforts to summarize this forum, we have overlooked a description of what the Green Dragon is for, we should take on some of the other forum descriptions and add it to either this thread or the role-play summary threads.
Probably edit this thread title to read: Welcome to the Green Dragon. Provide a description of the forum, then link to the role-play summary sticky thread by Aranel and the other resource threads that you already have here.
I for some reason, while browsing the Green Dragon, got an itch to try and re-vitalize this forum. RP was my first love when I came to the city in August 2000, and I hoped this place would flourish in that genre. Sure there's been some RP going on through the years, and some have been quite good, but I was thinking that now in 2009 we need something more. I have a couple ideas I'm working on, so watch the forum in the coming days (ok, maybe weeks). At worst it will flop and sink into the depths of the RP graveyard, but I think it will do more.
Also, I hope to write some short stories, and have yet to decide where. Either Mandin's Short Stories thread, or maybe better yet, The Writer's Hall. We'll see.
Lets give collaborative story RP & Writing a go here in the White City!

Well, I might be willing to give this a go, though I admit I do have my own tales to write! One I'm particularly bogged down on. I've been writing it on and off since September! Only other problem is that I don't do fourth age tales that well. I feel slightly uncomfortable about writing tales after the end of Lotr or at least I think I have to tread very carefully. Ideally, I like to write about times in the Third age but hundreds of years before the events of even the Hobbit.

That's a worthy endeavor, Snowdog! I'd love to see it vitalized - it has never died completely, I'd say, but it sure needs some new energy. I'm with you!
