Mandin didn't feel like swimming or reading, nor yet was it time to eat. He felt like making faces:

Having eaten her fill, LL finds a nice, grassy place in the sun for an after lunch nap.

Churrrrup.......churrrrrup........zzzzzzzzzttt.............mmmmmhhhh......... The bugs are getting thick, thanks to fresh fruit drops on the grass.

Swat....slap.....swish.....Slap... Who can sleep with insects like these? LL wonders aloud.

Tinelwen sits down beside LL, slapping at the darn mosquitos that are biting her.

Indeed! Who can do anything with these evil, blood-sucking creatures about!?

"Ah, this is great," said Mandin standing beneath the wide spreading tarp. He took off his hat, poured out a final letter, the rest of which Arra had, and then brought out a box of vanilla wafers and a gallon of milk. He set to work at once.

Hey White, is that one of those mesquitoe repelling plants I've been hearing about? LL asks. I really need one of those!

Yo Mandin, are you going to share, or what? Vanilla wafers and milk happens to be one of my favorites! I'll swap some mellon and berries for some.

Hey Tin, will you send some some of that water this way? I'm too comfortable to move and too hot to enjoy not moving.

Yes, I'll just create a tidal wave and send it this way...

Suddenly, they all hear a rapping at their tent door...
Because of the intense heat, no one would get up to open the door, so the guest let herself in, peering about at the picnickers.
Hi! I was just out running and saw your tent and wondered if you wouldn't mind if I took a dip in yonder swimming hole? The wise Alia questioned.

Mandin was a hopelessly slow swimmer, and as his challenger passed him by he reached out his arm and tugged her back by her hair.
"Ha ha!" cried Mandin, and ended up winning the race across.
