The smith's son Timble on hearing the news, that a great evil now dwelt in close proximity to his beloved township, decided action must be taken or his sisters wedding, the date of which was fast approaching, would be a miserable affair. He also decided that action must be taken by himself. For did not the foully cursed tomb come to rest in his home. Was this not an indication that he was the chosen one to deal with the matter? So taking his bendy stick, silver pliers, half a bottle of dwarvish ale and the Doxfords book of Crafty Trickese that his Godfather, Count Fandin son of Kandin, nephew to the Great Lord Mandin had given him on his last name-day the little quarter-hobbit set off to have a chat with this nefarious Garash enemy of the free peoples of Mandinland.

Lord Mandin was less than pleased with the way things were turning out, so he went down from his castle and found the youth getting ready to find the forest dwelling evil doer.
"You cannot go with such pathetic items," said Mandin, looking with disgust at the gathered odds and ends the quarter-hobbit had.
"I agree that it may be your destiny to destroy the evil that has come to Mandinland, but you must do so with the proper materials." So Mandin took off his hat which he wore of old, and he drew from it a magic battle-axe and a shield, which he gave immediately to the youth, and they fit him perfectly.
"This battle-axe is such that though it is heavy, it will never make your arm tired. It can cut through iron, stone, and wood, and if you fight against the powers of ice, the blade will be like a fire, but if you fight against flames, it will be bitter ice that quells the fire. This axe also has one other property of which only I know, and it will only be revealed if a particular thing comes to pass which only I know.
This shield is such that it cannot be penetrated by steel or iron or any other earthly metals. It's surface is polished bright like a black mirror such that the when some one looks into it, the reflection will show them their true self. If the person is evil, the reflection will be evil, and will do your enemy great harm. If a friend of yours who is good stares into its depths, the goodness of his soul will look back, and he will be healed of weariness and wounds.
Go now and purge Mandinland of evil!"

( [] )"Hhhmmmmmmmmmmmm...Why thank my good man," said Timble. "These items maybe of extreme use to me... but then again, maybe they will not. Yet I still thank you for your most magnanimousness."
Then remembering who he was talking and bowed down and started to try and kiss the venerable old lord's feet but Mandin wouldn let him, saying with a laugh,"No need for that, my valet does a good enough job with his tattered green shoeshine kit." Timble couldn't see anything very funny with what Mandin said but he laughed with him anyway just to keep him in good humour.

As soon as Mandin had left Timble whipped out the shield that was shrouded in black clothe and took a long hard look at his refection. As soon as he begin to gaze into the shield he felt his strength and courage rise for such was the goodness of his heart that his reflection wrought bones of iron in his left knee and he even felt his brain grow a little bit. But soon the courage that was swelling in his bosom overcame him and a giant scream burst out of his lungs. Jumping up he grab his things and run off screaming into the night. Some people thought they were being invaded by trolls.

In the deep night Timble crept into the forest. At that point he changed his mind. Two always seems better than one. So he headed back into the town to seek for his childhood sweet heart Basty the little pickpocket. Finding her in her usual spot outside Lord Mandin's gate waiting to beg or thieve from his wealthy guests Timble took her hand and whispered fabulous lies in her ear about mighty great treasures to be found up in the forest in the dead of night. Being a smart little whippet she did not believe him but she could see that adventure was to be had so taking his hand she ran off with him into the night.

Pherloteiel, shrouded in that darkness of the years following the diminishment of the party, now looked about herself and all the beauty of Mandinland. In that glance, she saw the evil that threatened, and at first she was dismayed and lost. Looking down, Pherloteiel saw what she had stolen long years ago from her brother, the strobe light. By the time it was cleaned and ready, night was growing, and she turned on the light. At first, it was weak, but with each passing minute the strobe grew stonger. All the land was covered in the confusion of the light, and in his lair, the evil knave was afraid, for naturally he had never been let out of his dungeon before and so never knew the party life. At this time, with the pickpocket of his childhood and the magic battle axe of Mandin, the quarter-hobbit was aided again, in that the knave's evil power was lessened for a time from his fear, and evil spy's and creatures that would have gotten in the way of Timble drew back, and so he passed through the woods with speed.

Wonders of wonders it started to rain, much to the discomfort of the two young adventurers. Batsy started crying. Timble the quarter-hobbit stopped running and lay Batsy on the ground. It had been three hours since they had entered the wicked forest. He was not yet quite lost, a little perhaps but not too much. Taking out Mandinnies old shield he told Batsy to look into but woe and behold she was at that very moment thinking an evil thought towards Timble and lo and behold her brain begun to shrink and she began to loose some her smarts. Actually she lost quite a lot of them much to the dismay of Timble who considered them her most delectable and alluring features. “Damn and Blast!” he cursed.

Slashing his way through the overgrown brambles that covered what was once a trail, he comes to the old swimming hole. Nothing but frogs and polywogs in there now. Maybe with a bit of attention he could clean it up and swim again. Nah. For now he'll be content just to sit and toss rocks into the still waters and watch the rings spread.

Woah, I had no idea this place was here! If you're up for it, I could borrow a strimmer from work and do some clearance. It's a lovely spot, shame to waste it.

Its kinda nice to have the privacy so don't overclear it. Maybe make it nice yet secluded enough so we can have the 2014 Minas tirith wet t-shirt contest... []

*Faithfull danced toward the pool of water with a look of hopeful curiosity. She had just heard a splash, and wanted to be sure of what she might be getting into. She sensed only friendly antics and happy times, so she slipped out of her outer garment and headed into the water in her tank top and shorts.*

"Ahhhh, the water is lovely! Athene and Snowdog, I love what you've done with this place. Just right!"

*Faithfull squealed with delight as she noticed the rope swing dangling above her.* []

*the many paparazzi with telephoto lenses in the trees snap pix vigorously as the moistened woman clad in wet shimmering samite tank top and shorts arises from the bosom of the water and climbed upon the rope swing*

Snowdog was glad she didn't toss a sword at him as he didn't want to be king. He said,

"You sure know how to make a splash Miss Goldberry, and those photos would be worthy of the new playboy mag."

He sat on the shore and grabbed a beer from the esky.

*Faithfull briefly studied Snowdog while dangling from the rope. She rather enjoyed the reference to herself as being Goldberry, but she was thoroughly put off by the notion of a photo in a publication such as 'Playboy.' She grabbed a tree branch and whispered to a passing butterfly. Then, launching off the tree, she dropped neatly into the pool.*

"Ahoy, Snowdog! What great fun this swimming hole is! You might consider donning a swimming costume. You do like to swim?"

*In the distance an odd cloud was seen forming, and a low hum could be heard. Faithfull suppressed a grin and was silently cheering the swift butterfly which she had sent to the Entwives with her message. The swarm of bees was bigger than she had hoped for, and they were headed her way.*

Snowdog smirks at the watery woman before saying,

"I've been in this swimming hole for so long I'm getting waterlogged. And what be this "swimming costume" you speak of, and why would I need one?" []

Snowdog lifted his hand and let the water run through his fingers.

"Hee! Well, your birthday suit is a fine swimming costume, Snowy! Now, please help me to collect all this photography equipment that the papparazzi left behind in their hurry. We can't be letting trash lay around or it will act as a magnet. Never mind about digital information - The stars, in their courses above, have disrupted traffic."

The two worked to clear the pond and surrounding area with the help of a couple of ravens. Noting the late hour, she decided it was probably a good time to go back to the Inn for a bite and a brew.

Snowdog sipped the beer he had left on the shore and realized it was a bit flat. The bits he cleaned up he would keep for later. []

Faithfull toweled herself dry and glanced at Snowdog with amusement. She didn't know if the disrupting influence of the stars had been strong enough to completely wipe the discs. She decided it wasn't her problem, anymore. She had made her stance regarding salaciousness, opportunism and invasion of privacy quite clear (even at a public swimming hole, it is appropriate to request permission before making and sharing digital images and recordings). As for anything Snowdog might have pocketed, it would have to be a matter between Snowy, his missus and his Maker.

"Eru Iluvatar, please guide him in his choices" she hummed to herself.
Turning to Snowdog she commented, "Thanks for your help in cleaning up after that sorry bunch. What do you say we head back? I'm smelling the smoke of that heavenly grill of yours from here!"
